SUSTAINABLE FAT LOSS 101: HOW TO GET IN THE BEST SHAPE OF YOUR LIFE LONG-TERM
The fitness industry is saturated with misinformation on how to achieve sustainable fat loss. Everyone claims to be an ‘expert’ with the latest fad diet, exercise fat burner, or worse, a drug that supposedly worked for them or someone they know. It’s not surprising that women are confused, exhausted, frustrated and feel like they’re not able to reach their weight loss goals in a sustainable way.
WHY THE FITNESS INDUSTRY HAS FAILED YOU
You’ve tried it all. The fad diets, the ‘cookie cutter’ programs, the 8 week challenges. You are promised the world when you start these so-called ‘solutions’, and you think to yourself “I’ll just give up eating out”, or “I’ll give up catching up with friends or postponing that holiday for a period of time” if it means you’ll get the physique you strive so hard for.
The problem?
This almost never happens. Either you will feel you have to sacrifice your life by spending it preparing the meals from your generic meal plan (which usually includes foods you don’t like, or requires a million ingredients, or every day has a different meal and you end up with ingredients you’ll never use again), or you’re told that you need to train 5, 6, even 7 times per week for what feels like hours on end, or worse, both!
And say on the off chance you do see some results, they are either not the results you yearn to achieve, or you end up back at square one because the system you took to get there is broken. It’s not sustainable, and it doesn’t compliment your life, it replaces it.
How do I know this? Because I was their ‘poster child’ for this in every way. The constant fluctuations in my weight, the thoughts that I was the one that was ‘broken’, not the system. You start to wonder how a billion-dollar industry promises so much and yet delivers so little. So how did I break-through this vicious cycle?
GETTING STARTED: HOW TO KICK-START YOUR TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY THE RIGHT WAY
There are 5 fundamental principles which will provide you with everything you need to get in next level shape:
Nutrition: nutrition is critical when it comes to body composition results. Having clear nutritional targets and incorporating foods you enjoy to meet those targets will go a long way to achieving sustainable fat loss.
Training: effective strength training is required to achieve that athletic, toned physique you’re after. Compound exercises (i.e. exercises that move multiple muscle groups during a movement) will provide you the biggest bang for your buck. It’s important to select exercises which are suitable for you.
Mindset: motivation might get you started, but it’s your mindset that keeps you going. Your mindset and self-talk are fundamental for success with any personal change and growth.
Recovery: without adequate recovery, you will undo many of the benefits you gain from training and other factors in your life. Recovery is not purely focused on sleep (although this definitely cannot be overlooked), but also focuses on your daily movement.
Lifestyle: living a healthy lifestyle and transforming your body should not be at the detriment of the life you’re wanting to live, it needs to compliment it. Opting for a ‘minimalist’ approach to healthy living enables you to hit your goals and still set time aside each day (even if it’s only 5 minutes) to incorporate something you love.
BEYOND TRAINING & NUTRITION: YOUR MINDSET MATTERS
Once you have a plan in place, it all comes down to execution. One of the most underrated elements of body transformation (or any change) is your mindset.
Sure, we understand that to improve our health we need to exercise and eat nutritious food, but what about when things don’t go according to plan?
Or you’ve lost motivation to continue?
Your mindset is fundamental to your transformation journey. Here’s how to bulletproof your mindset:
build a growth mindset
learn to embrace delayed gratification
Remember, sustainable fat loss takes time, effort, and dedication.
It needs to be something that you can do no matter what life throws at you. Stop wasting your time and energy on the latest fads from the fitness industry, or the next ‘cookie cutter’ program that will only deliver mediocre results. Focus on implementing your simplified individualised action plan and know the results are guaranteed.
